With over thirty years experience within the hospitality industry between them, Marianne and Richard Baker are both self-confessed foodies. With a passion for the countryside and local community, the seasonal menu & blackboard selections at The Plough Inn celebrate their shared love of local country produce and unpretentious dining.
Richard has always been chefing in various locations throughout Kent and with 20 years of experience before moving to Stalisfield, if he can’t cook by now heaven help us! Previous jobs included working at Chilston Park, Eastwell Mannor, Hotel du Vin and along side Andrew Turner in London.
Marianne was born to Hotelier parents and was taught to silver serve at the grand old age of 6! With 15 years of London experience in hotel operations she also became a finalist in the Savoy Gastronomes Olive Barnett Award and an Acorn winner.
Richard & Marianne met in the industry when their paths crossed in a central London Hotel. Marianne worked in Reception and Richard in the kitchen . . . . . . after a busy day Richard saw Marianne sitting on the floor by the safe counting the money (a mean task when the Hotel had 621 bedrooms!) and asked if she’d had lunch . . . . . following the ham sandwich and a few dates later they we married in 2012.
With passion for service & food they began their search for a pub/restaurant to run together. Two & a half years later they found The Plough Inn and as timing is so important in life . . . . by the time they moved in Marianne was 3 months pregnant. Little Nathan joined the family in February and his half sisters were delighted. There is always a big debate about who will work where when they grow up but at present the thoughts are that Olivia will work front of house, Abi both front of house and in the kitchen (she’s a Daddy’s girl for sure) and as for Nathan, anywhere where there is food!
