Festive Fun

Are you looking for somewhere in the heart of Kent to meet with those nearest and dearest to you?  Then look no further than The Plough Inn.

Visit us and celebrate over the Christmas period, whether it’s a meal or staying sumptuous stay away – book early to avoid disappointment.

We’re ideally situated to visit the local festive markets and events:

Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th December, 10am to 4pm Whitstable Castle

If you’re looking to get in the Christmas spirit while also surrounded by some stunning history, then this is the Christmas market for you. These two days will be packed with festive goodness, from Santa’s grotto to the range of stalls selling a whole variety of holly jolly gifts and trinkets.

The Orangery Tearooms will be serving light lunches, minced pies and mulled wine. There will also be live music to enjoy and plenty of opportunities to nab some truly unique decorations to make Christmas in your home feel just right.

Our magical Santa’s Grotto will be open from 10am onwards (booking is essential)

Friday 15th November to Tuesday 24th December, 10am to 6pm Canterbury

One of the most magical festive shopping experiences in the country – Canterbury’s traditional Christmas Market will open on 15th November to 24th December 2024.

And for the first time in more than 150 years, part of the market will be hosted inside the grounds of Canterbury Cathedral as well as across the medieval city centre!

Our market comprises traditional wooden huts in the German-style, selling incredible gifts and treats, along with stalls churning out great food, warm and cold drinks, beers and mulled wine, German sausages, and more! All adorned with beautiful lights.

There will be 150 stalls in total across the city, as well as 3 Christmas Trees in the city centre and a further 8 Christmas trees within the cathedral grounds. Wow!

A wonderful festive market in one of England’s most beautiful, ancient cities.

Saturday 7th & Sunday 8th December 10am – 6pm – Rochester Dickensian Christmas Festival

Step back in time and start the festive season in Dickensian style at the popular Rochester Dickensian Christmas festival taking place on Saturday, 7 and Sunday, 8 December.

Each year, the first weekend of December brings Victorian festivities to Rochester in the form of a Dickensian Christmas, where you can experience street entertainment, readings, song and dance.

You’ll be captivated by Dickens’ characters as you explore the literary journey that was the great writer’s life.

A full programme of colourful and lively events will be published nearer the time.

Festival Parades & Carols

11am – Seven Poor Travellers’ Procession

Led from outside the Victoria & Bull Hotel, by the Town Crier, the procession will move along the High Street and conclude outside the Six Poor Travellers’ House, where a short speech will be made.

12Noon – Main Parade

Led by the Mayor of Medway, the parade of costume characters and performers will start in the High Street by Almon Place. It will move along the High Street, turn left at Northgate into Boley Hill and finishing on the Boley Hill Stage.

4.45pm – Candlelit Parade

Led by the Mayor of Medway, the parade will start on the High Street by Almon Place. It will move along the High Street and turn left into Boley Hill to join the carol service on the open air stage.

5pm – Carols for Christmas

This year we welcome the Rochester Choral Society as they lead the magical concert. Join BAE Systems Brass Band and all the festival performers in a selection of popular Christmas carols outside Rochester’s magnificent cathedral on Boley Hill, under a guaranteed snowfall.

Every Friday to Sunday from 15th November to 24th December – Folkestone harbour

Folkestone Harbour’s Christmassy Oasis of independent market stalls, festive films, snow blizzards, live music, carol services and delicious food & drink is set to return.

We’re building on the success of the past two years and bringing in much more. More decorations, more free films, more entertainment, longer opening hours and even an opportunity to meet the big man. Plus, with more indoor dining options available than ever before, there really nowhere else you’ll need to go to get that Festive feeling in the build up to the big day.

Folkestone Harbour is a popular tourist attraction on the South East coast. Well known as THE place to be in high summer, our unique offer of quality food, drink, entertainment and experiences is that our visitors trust us to deliver is condensed and refined in the winter months as we open our Festive Marketplace.

Adjoining the Market is The Goods Yard; an 800+ capacity street food venue, anchored by an outdoor cinema screen. During the Festive period this space becomes a hub of activity with live music, large coral performances, and even free-to-enjoy Christmas classics on the big screen. There will be some sort of event, activity or screening on every day of the Festive Market.

The Festive Market itself is comprised of 35 bespoke built huts each measuring 3m x 3m. Their design is a nod to traditional fisherman style huts. The huts come together around a large 10-meter-tall tree.
